A Healbotting Experience
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009Alright. I’m a good old fashioned healer and I rarely use mods to help me heal. I have my handy dandy Nostromo, a mouse, and green bars to click and I was good to go. Does this make foolish or a bad healer? I don’t think so. In fact, I think my setup has done wonders and is miles above a pure mouse healer (there are some good ones of those as well).
Yet, last week, I found myself curious as I was redoing my UI. I said to myself, “Why not?” So, I remembered that someone said some nice things about the Healbot addon and downloaded it myself. Until last night I was on my Tauren Druid and hadn’t noticed anything other than if I clicked the button with my name then it buffed me. Nice, but it was nothing to give it its name. I hadn’t clicked on options yet simply because I didn’t see it on that character and I hadn’t taken the time to look up the help.
Last night was an unusual experience. I logged on my Night Elf Priest for my Naxx 10 run and was invited to raid. Immediately I noticed this list of names on the right of my screen with silver bars. I looked at it curiously and clicked the options button at the bottom. I didn’t really understand things at that moment, so I closed out.
I clicked the button experimentally. Buffed me. I frowned because it was an individual buff and not a raid wide buff, but perhaps that’s a setting I have yet to figure out. I just do my raid wide buffs like normal. The white on the bars fade away. I begin to acknowledge that white means they’re missing a buff.
Next, I play with clicking the button again. I discover left mouse click flash heals and right mouse click casts a greater heal. I feel a bit of glee. However, I recall that there was a middle mouse button option and I click about finally clicking my mouse wheel. Renew. I’m surprised and delighted. There’s even a 4th and 5th button options, but I haven’t played with those yet.
I play through Noth the Plaguebringer without button mashing for once and just simple mouse clicking as I look at Healbot and get used to what it’s telling me. -dmg, +heal, multiple colors. It fascinated me. I didn’t understand that there was even more until after we wiped on Heigan the Unclean once. I thought for sure that I was keeping diseases off, until I went into options as discovered a couple of things. A purple bar meant they were diseased and I could cast abolish disease with a simple alt+left mouse click.
Heigan had never been easier for me. I was tossing out heals and diseases more quickly than ever before because Healbot made it so easy for me to recognize. Loatheb didn’t even have a chance when we made it to him. I never thought that an addon would ever make that much of a difference to my playstyle. I’ve had useful addons such as Outfitter. Cosmetic addons such as Pitbull and SunnArt. Even ones meant for a specific part of the community such as FlagRSP. But this one took the cake.
Healbot is extremely useful and condenses many of the spells that healers use into simple mouse clicks. I would recommend this to anyone who heals on a regular basis and I’m certainly looking forward to seeing everything this addon can do. It actually makes me regret not having picked it up sooner. No matter your playstyle, this addon is a great addition for easy visual keys and quick heals. I give this addon on a 10/10 in my book.
