Lannia Winterstorm

Lannia Banner

Below I have provided a codex that was originally created by Tharion Greyseer at Netherbane.com. The codex provides a basic overview and history of the character as well as their abilities.

Night Elf Priestess
War Priestess of the Netherbane

Name (in-game, if different from above)
Lannia

Race (in-game, if different from above)
Night Elf

Player’s Overview
Lannia is the daughter of Nysse Winterstorm. Her father is not known to her, but it’s probable that he’s a druid trapped within the Emerald Dream or he’s dead. He has never made himself known. When Lannia was still a young child (about 1,000 years ago), Nysse left to help with an unknown war. Nysse has only made herself known to the Netherbane once to ensure that her daughter was doing well. Nysse chooses to let Lannia choose her own path in life without her. Lannia barely recalls her mother from when she was left in the Temple of Elune’s care.

Growing up within temple created an unusual bond with the priestesses if not all of the night elven race. Lannia’s view of family is on a much broader sense than most have learned. She had many ‘mothers’ and ’sisters’ within the temple and even a few ‘fathers’ and ‘brothers’.

It was when she was just barely attaining adulthood that one of her ‘brothers’ Faeroh came to her. He took Lannia to meet someone name Tharion Greyseer. He was the first to bring to her attention that there were other dangers in the world that the would affect her. It was shortly after that unique meeting that she was called to Priestess Alathea. A mission, one that not many priestesses had yet chosen to take, was offered. Go to the human lands and learn more about the blight that was tearing apart the land. A human escort would be waiting at Menethil.

Lannia took the offer as her mind was filled with both the words of Tharion Greyseer and Priestess Alathea. The world needed whatever help she could offer. Thus she began her journey to find a young man named Durmeth waiting for her at Menethil. They traveled to Stormwind, and having grown fond of her company Durmeth stayed by her side. It was in these lands that Lannia met up with Tharion again and began actively learning about the blight/legion from him.

Lannia became the Netherbane war priestess that they could rely on in times of need, and Durmeth stayed by her side within the Netherbane as he rose in ranks within the military. Lannia and Durmeth often split their time between the military and the Netherbane, but if asked, those of the Netherbane always come first. Although that priority has shifted slightly at the knowledge of their now unborn child.

Abilities or Powers

Light of Elune
The light of Elune has two distinct purposes.

  • It burns those that mean harm to herself and those she holds dear. This is more of a light that radiates from Lannia. When you look closely into the light, her eyes glow more intensely and light wings are formed. It difficult for those without felsight to look at this form for very long. She also has never been able to sustain this form for long periods of time.
  • It also heals those who she directs it toward. This is a gentle blue-white light that radiates from Lannia’s person as she heals them. The light creates a warm, soothing feeling that numbs pain that would be reminiscent of being held as a child.

Levitation
This is standard levitation. It can either soften a fall or raise Lannia about a half a humanoid height in the air. It can be used in conjunction with any of her other abilities.

Shield of Elune
Lannia’s physical manifestation of Elune’s good will. A protective barrier with a blue tint (different from in game) surrounds the receiver of Lannia’s power. This Elune protects from most harm, but as it is only a portion of Lannia’s power… it can and will eventually fail. Elune has graced Lannia with the ability to protect others in the same way that Elune protects her.

Spirit Restoration
This is the greatest of all of Lannia’s gifts and it is not without a price. Lannia is able to grant life back to the newly departed if the soul is agreeable. This process leaves her tired and vulnerable as it is a long and tedious task. Elune grants her requests, but Lannia believes that there is a reason for the good will that is granted beyond what is on the surface.
** This may seem over-powered, but that’s why I specify newly departed. And Elune can always deny any of her requests. **

Dark Side of Elune
This is the darker side of Elune that grasps at Lannia when she loses control. The first time that this appeared was when Lannia thought that Tharion was dead for a little while. These shadows fed her anger and distress and covered her in black flames. These flames were so cold that they would burn flesh and ground. Lannia attempted to master these for a short time, but found them unnatural to the Elune she knew and loved. She keeps a much more careful check on her more distressing emotions now in order to avoid this.

Handmaiden
Durmeth, guardian and husband of Lannia, is rarely away from her side. She can call on her ‘handmaiden’ at any time to protect her in time of battle and Elune always seems to be on her side when she does this. Indeed, he even comes when she does not call and isn’t needed… much to her chagrin. While Durmeth is not truly a handmaiden, the term evolved out of when Lannia was unsure of how to refer to him and this was offered. After seeing the amusing reaction, it is often used as a private joke amongst the older Netherbane crowd. Anyone who uses this term should beware if they have not already earned Durmeth’s respect.
